Visiting the farm
When are you open?
Where do I park?
We are at 34 Plains Road in Readfield. Follow the Ledge Hill Farm sign and park on the road near the barn. Someone will be there to greet you and hand you a saw.
What should we wear?
Boots and warm layers. The rows are grass and the hillside can be wet, muddy or snowy depending on the weekend.
Is there anything for kids?
Plenty of room to run between the rows, a fire to sit by, and free hot chocolate and cookies in the shed.
Do you take credit or debit cards?
No. We take cash, local checks and Venmo.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, we welcome well-behaved, family-friendly dogs. Keep your dog on a short leash at all times and pick up after any accidents. Please do not let your dog pee on the trees.
Do you have a restroom?
No, we do not have restroom facilities on the farm.
I'm a photographer. Can I use the farm for a client shoot?
Every year dozens of photographers ask to use the farm. We wish we could say yes to every small business, but it has become too much.
To keep the visit relaxed for everyone, we now choose one photographer each year to hold December shoots here once we open. We have already chosen our photographer for the 2026 season. Thanks for understanding.
Families and individuals are welcome to take as many of their own photos as they like while visiting.
Trees and tree care
What kind of trees do you sell?
We grow and sell two kinds: balsam fir and fraser fir.
Balsams are native to Maine and very fragrant, with soft needles of medium length. They are the traditional Christmas tree.
Frasers come from the mountains of the southeastern US. They are also very fragrant, with strong branches and shorter needles.
Do you have any really tall trees?
Every year we have a small selection of trees 10 feet and taller. They go fast, and the tallest usually sell out on opening weekend. Call us at 207-685-7333 to check what is left.
Do you provide saws?
Yes. We provide hand saws for you to use. Christmas trees are soft and cut easily with them. You are also welcome to bring your own hand saw.
Can I use a chainsaw or Sawzall?
No. Our insurance does not allow powered saws of any kind, so please leave chainsaws and battery-powered saws at home.
What if I do not want to cut my own?
Pick from the precut trees standing by the barn. They are all Maine grown and cut fresh for the season.
How are trees priced?
Every tree has a price tag attached. Prices are set by variety and size, so you will know the cost before you cut.
Do you wrap trees?
Yes. We have a wrapping system if you would like your tree packaged for the drive home, and there is no extra charge. We can wrap almost any tree, but now and then a very large one will not fit.
How do I keep my tree fresh?
Cut a thin slice off the bottom of the trunk if the tree sits for more than a few hours before it goes in the stand.
Fill the stand with water right away and check it every day. A fresh tree drinks a lot in the first week.
Keep it away from heaters and wood stoves.
Wreaths, workshops and orders
How much are wreaths?
See our current pricing on the Home page. We post some pricing online, but the full list greenery prices is posted in the shed.
Can I order a custom wreath?
Yes. Tell us the size, colors and any theme you have in mind. Plaid, velvet, woodland animals, pine cones and berries are all on the table. Order early in the season for the best choice of ribbon.
What happens at a greenery workshop?
You make a wreath or other decoration at our workbench or yours. We provide fresh greens, frames, wire, ribbon and pruners, and walk you through each step. You take home what you make.
How do I sign up for a workshop?
Use the contact page and pick Greenery workshop. Seats are limited because the workbench is only so long.
